Another perfect day at the beach! The storm had gone though and the water was calm. Today we had lessons in making Drip Castles!! I was amazed on how great the kids did.
Picture perfect!
By late afternoon all the dads had made it to the condo! We had a yummy taco night, some people went to the hermit crab races, while others attempted to put the VERY over tired kids down for the night. Then we just all relaxed for the evening. OK, yes we are a little geeky! haha
The second day at the beach a very different from the first. A storm was coming in and the waves were huge. It was so bad that the lifeguards said no one could go past knee deep water. In the end it didn’t matter cause the kids had a great time anyway!
Sleeping schedules for the kids haven’t been the best. The kids are WAY over tired and not use to the beds they’re sleeping in. It’s been difficult for both the kids and the parents!!
We had a fabulous first day at the beach. The weather was perfect and the kids had a great time!!!
After the beach we headed back to the condo and turned the hose on the kids! haha They had a great time and we managed to get most of the sand off the kids.
This year we also decided to bring down the water table. (If you haven’t guessed we ended up taking two cars down!) It was a GREAT idea!! The kids played for hours!
We finally arrived in RI after a LONG car ride! For some reason MA thought it would be a good idea to close the entrance to 95 (from 93) on a Sunday. We ended going WAY out of the way and traveling back. But we made it and really pulled in right after Sarah and Mo. I think we all arrived at the condo within 10 minutes of each other. Sunday we didn’t do much, just unpacked, planned out the meals for the week, LOTS of chit chatting and just allowed the kids to play.
Noby very happy to see where we are. Here he is having a little lunch when we arrived.
That night we decided to try giving Noby his own room in one of the bathrooms. I’m not sure he was digging it yet!
Well as you can tell Noby won the battle that first time. He was up in the middle of the night and in the end Ichiro was on the couch and Noby got the entire bed!
Noby and mommy were pretty tired the next morning!
Sorry I haven’t posted much this week. To be honest there hasn’t been much to write about. We’re still working on potty training, therefore we haven’t gone to far from the house.
Day 4, I took Noby to the doctors with me for my 1 hour glucose test. I was pretty nervous how he would do so I put a pull up on him. Of course he did great!! Even after dragging him to the grocery store after the test, he was dry when we got home. Noby really seems to understand that he shouldn’t pee in his “car underwear.”
Day 5, On the morning of day 5 Noby was still only peeing on the potty when I told him to sit. He wasn’t having any accidents but that was because I was reminding to go. Believe me, I wasn’t upset about this at all, but I really wanted him to tell me when HE had to go. WELL on day 5 it happened. Well kind of. Noby and I were playing and all of a sudden he ran into the kitchen (home of the little potty.) He sat down and PEED!!! I was so excited, even if he didn’t remember to take his underwear off! haha
Day 6, While I was checking my email at the kitchen table, I turned around to find Noby peeing on the potty!! WITH is underwear down!! I’m not sure how it happened but it just clicked with him! I am so impressed how well Noby is doing with this training. Day 6 was also a “school” day for Noby. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to bring him in big boy underwear or if I should stick with a pull up. We, and by we I mean, I decided that we should still go with a pull up, cause I wasn’t ready for it! Noby did great! When it was time to wash his hands for snack I showed him where the potty was at school. I had him sit down on it and he went!! It was so great! When we finally got home his pull up was still dry!
Day 7, Molly came to the house for her session with Noby. She couldn’t get over the fact that we started potty training the day after our IEP meeting. She said “Only you Becky would try to tackle that!” She was so impressed that Noby had been accident free for a few days and even more impressed when Noby wanted to show her how he could use the potty all by himself. She couldn’t wait to get back to work to tell her boss!!!
OK, I promise this is my last post about potty training. I know it’s not very exciting but honestly it’s all we’ve been focused on for the past week. Sunday we leave for vacation and I promise to have some more exciting posts!!
After we signed Noby up for Preschool last week the teacher said he could start the week he turns 3. She then asked if Noby was potty trained. “Ummm No,” I said “but he will come Sept 21!” Well I knew this could take a while so we decided to start right away! I did a little research online and found a plan called “3 Day Potty Training.” Why not, right? After reading it I didn’t think Noby was ready for her hard core methods so we adapted it to fit our lifestyle. Basically instead of cutting out all diapers AND pull ups cold turkey, we are using pull ups only at naptime and night time. We are calling them special sleeping underwear. I attempted one nap without them and it wasn’t pretty so pull ups it is for now!
So we started this project on Friday. Noby woke up in the morning and I quickly changed him into big boy pants. The 3 Day Plan says to keep asking Noby to tell me when HE has to go potty. But he quickly had two accidents and I couldn’t stick with that. SO for the rest of the day I asked Noby if he needed to sit on the potty. Sometimes he said yes and sometimes no. Sometimes I made him sit on the potty and he would go. Even just a little bit. But I considered that going and he got a sticker and some candy for it!! We tried to make it as fun as possible. Like I said the first day I tried to have Noby nap without a pull up. When I went up to get him the entire bed was wet. Everything in it, everything. I quickly called Ichiro to pick up pull ups on the way home! haha. The rest of the day Noby was accident free! I was so proud of him, he sat on the potty when I asked him to and would go even a little bit. I think the first day he got something like 12 stickers!!!
Day two (Saturday) I woke up and decided that maybe I should be following the plan more. I decided I would just remind Noby to tell me when he had to go. Well quickly he had another accident and I decided that the 3 Day Potty Training plan was not for us. Noby went the rest of the day accident free! Of course we haven’t left the house and I continue to sit Noby on the potty.
Day three (Sunday) We have been accident free thus far. We continue to sit Noby on the potty and use pull ups for sleeping. But it’s working. He loves to get the stickers and isn’t even worried about the candy so much. He’s proud when he knows you are. It’s really great. We haven’t made number 2 on the potty yet but hopefully he will get that soon.
I’m a little nervous about tomorrow. I have a dr apt in the morning and am not sure if Noby is ready to leave the house for over an hour in big boy underwear. I’m not sure if I should use a pull up or just see if he can hold it. I guess I’ll see how I feel in the morning!
Here are a few pictures from our last 3 days…. Yes, he hasn’t been dressed in 3 days!!
So it’s official, Noby will be attending preschool in September! Ichiro and I are so excited for him. Wednesday we attended Noby’s first IEP team meeting. It really couldn’t have gone any better!! They decided that all the tests showed that Noby is scoring in normal range and come fall he will only qualify for speech services. This is great news but it also means that he won’t be able to attend the free preschool in town. While we waited for some paperwork, one of the teachers asked if we had any idea where we wanted to send him to preschool. We explained that we hadn’t thought much about it and not being from Medford we were going to have to do some research. She listed off a few in town and then also said that they do run a program here for children scoring in the “normal” range. She checked it out while we were there and there was ONE spot still open for Sept. She explained that if we decided to enroll Noby in this program it would allow the IEP team to keep an eye on him, making sure he is progressing normally. Ichiro and I looked at each other and knew it was something we wanted to do! SO we signed him up, gave our deposit, and even got a tour of his classroom! We are so excited!
Today Noby and I participated in our first Traveling Playgroup. Our town of Medford has one of the leading Family Networks in the state. Many towns try to model their network against ours, at least that’s what they told me. lol One of their on going activities is a traveling playgroup. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday they have a playgroup at one of the local parks in Medford. They set up activities like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, hula hoops, an art activity and they run activities like parachute play and sing along with bean bags. This is the first time we checked it out and I think we might go back. There were a lot of parents and a lot of kids but over all I think Noby had a great time.
