Yesterday we headed south for the annual Brian and Lisa Cookout. It was such a great day! It’s always nice to be able to catch up with friends that we don’t get to see as often as we would like.
Every year Brian and Lisa out do themselves! Here’s Brian manning two of his 3 grills of meat!
As it got a little cooler out, Brian started the fire and broke out the fireworks!!! These fireworks were AMAZING!! Nothing I have even seen in a backyard before!!! Noby was a little scared but loved the colors!

I was searching the internet for a fun recipe to bring to Brian and Lisa’s cookout when I came across the picture above. I just thought it looked so tasty that we had to try it! The picture didn’t disappoint it was such a nice refreshing salad!
Melon Salad Recipe
(makes about 8 servings)
adapted from Giada De Laurentiis
Ingredients:
1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups (approximately) watermelon balls
3 1/2 cups (approximately) cantaloupe balls
1/2 cup mint leaves, packed
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon amaretto (optional)
Directions:
– Begin by making the simple syrup. Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a low simmer and stir, making sure that all sugar is dissolved. It should only take a couple of minutes of simmering. The liquid will thicken slightly and should remain clear. Remove from heat and let cool. (Remember: You are only using a portion of this syrup. Refrigerate the remainder for a few days if you’d like, for use in another recipe. It’s great for sweetening tea or water.)
– Next, using a melon baller, scoop about 3 1/2 cups of watermelon and 3 1/2 cups cantaloupe into a large mixing bowl and set aside. If you don’t have a melon baller you can always cut up the melon into about 1-1 1/2″ squares.
– Once the simple syrup has cooled, blend 1/4 cup of the simple syrup, mint, lemon juice and amaretto in a blender until mint is finely chopped.
– Pour the mixture over the melon pieces and combine well.
– Serve right away, or cover and refrigerate until needed.

It’s been a while since we had taco night. I know that sounds crazy to many of you. Keith hasn’t been able to do Tuesday Taco/Bowling night for a while now and we’ve pretty much just been waiting. Well we couldn’t wait any longer and Ichiro decided to try out his new lens while I made some guacamole.

Over the past few days Noby has really been interested in the costumes that have been in his playroom for months now. Mostly the skunk costume, and really just the body of the costume but today he really REALLY got into it.
First he wanted me to help him with the skunk body again. I convinced him to go find the skunk’s ears and he quickly came back with it for me to put it on. Next thing I know he’s asking me to help him add the vampire cape. Then he found one of the skunk slippers and kept saying “skunk footprint.”
Next thing I know he was asking me to help him with the pirate hat!!! I couldn’t stop laughing!! And finally he found the other skunk slipper and brought it to me to help put it on!
Like I said I couldn’t stop laughing and I kept asking him to stand still so I could take his picture. We tried several times and finally he just crawled up onto the couch and posed like this….
Well of course I just laughed more!!!!
He stayed like this all afternoon! Here he is having a little snack!!!

Ichiro and I have had a very busy and very productive weekend!
Just take a look….
The closet is framed. Just needs some drywall and tape!
The TV is hung and working in our room…
AND… Our closet is PRIMED!! That’s right we decided to go ahead and prime the closet. Going to pick a color tomorrow and have this project finished this week. Then just some shelves and load everything back in!!
