Today was day 1 of my 10 day all raw, all juice detox. Last week a friend suggested, on Facebook, to watch the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. When she said it was streaming on Netflix I logged on to check it out. The movie was amazing and so inspiring. It’s the story of Joe Cross, an overweight Aussie who was also suffering from autoimmune disease. When medicine wasn’t working for him, he decided to take back his life and have his body heal itself. He traded in his junk food, purchased a juicer, and set out to drive cross country only drinking fruits and vegetables for 60 days. The documentary shows Joe’s transformation from an sick overweight couch potato, who was taking a number of different pills to a healthy, active man. The movie also highlight the story of Phil Staples. On his trip cross county Joe met a 429lb truck driver name Phil. Joe offers Phil his help and you would just be amazed where Phil’s journey takes him.
I started doing some more digging and I found that a raw, juicing detox was designed to detoxify and strengthen organs like the liver, colon, kidney, skin and lungs. They say that the juice provides concentrated vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients in an easily absorbed form. The more reading I did the more I intrigued I got. I decided that I was going to give it a try. Not a 60+ day detox like Joe and Phil, but more of a 10 detox. I figure I could do anything for 10 days, right? Friday I went in search of a juicer, Sunday I went shopping for fruits and veggies and today I got started!
It was actually fun. I had a good time mixing fruits and veggies and hoping they taste good. Today I made 4 different juice, one at 9 am, one at 1 pm, 5 pm and 9 pm. Some were definitely better then others, but over all they were all drinkable!
Here’s a picture of my second juice of the day. It includes, a green apple, 3 handfuls of spinach, 6 kale leaves, 1/2 cucumber, 4 celery stalks and half a lemon. It was actually pretty tasty!
