Growing up I can remember my mom having an empty juice or milk carton that was hidden away so that no one could find it. Often the top was taped shut so if found, no one could open it. This was known as the Beach Fund! It would be used during our weeks vacation at the beach; used for breakfasts on the beach or at the water slides.
Every day after work, my father came home and emptied his pocket change into a little basket by the back door. This change would pile up and soon my mom would move it to the Beach Fund. The Beach Fund would also get all money that was earned by returning soda cans. And in the Hansen’s family that could add up to a lot! The money would build and build and right before our yearly week at Misquamicut, mom would cash the money in.
Well a couple of years ago I started a beach fund. All change that Ichiro leaves laying around the house AND all the soda can returns are put into this 5 gallon water bottle I have upstairs. (I know a 5 gallon water bottle is a little over kill but it’s what I had hanging around!!) Anyway I didn’t end up cashing in the money before our beach trip last year, so this year there is A LOT of money in there.
So besides the change Ichiro leaves around the house, he also was collecting change at work. He kept telling me how he had a couple of cups of quarters. Just quarters!! I wasn’t expecting much but today he brought it home!!! OMG did he have a lot!!! $135 ALOT! I’ve trained him well!!
OUR BEACH FUND IS GOING TO BE CRAZY!!!! Good thing because this year we go for TWO weeks!!!
This is what Ichiro came home with today:
Counting it out… those are $5 piles!
My beach fund BEFORE we added Ichiro’s quarters…
