Several people have suggested that I should have started Noby on solid food by now. But I’ve done some research and knew I didn’t want to start until at least 6 months.
“The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) acknowledges that there are no “strict” age guidelines on introducing solid foods to your baby. However, the AAP, along with the CDC and the WHO do recommend that you offer nothing but breast milk and/or formula until you baby is at least 6 months old.
This ensures optimal nutritional exposure and may stave off food allergies amongst other issues. Further studies have shown that an infant’s gastrointestinal tract has not or may not have matured enough to properly digest/utilize solid foods until around 6-8 months old!”
Believe me, I’ve wanted to start several times but also knew that there was no nutritional value in starting early. Noby’s pediatrician, Dr. F gave us the go ahead around 4 months and since then I have been waiting and waiting. Well today we are 12 days away from Noby’s 6 month birthday so I thought it would be a perfect time to start!!! We’ll be following the 1-1-1, 2-2-2 method. This means 1 tablespoon of cereal, 1 time a day for 1 week. Then 2 tablespoons of cereal, 2 times a day for two weeks. During the end of this 3 week period, we have Noby’s 6 month appointment. At that point we will start to introduce fruits and veggies! I can’t wait!!
Noby watched very carefully on how I mixed the cereal.
First bite…
not to sure what to think…
let me try this again…
maybe I like rice…
I CHANGE MY MIND! I CHANGE MY MIND!
I decided I don’t like rice!
No more Mommy!!!
Friday was my follow up appointment for the shingles. I thought for sure I would get the ok to start being able to hang out with friends. Well I was wrong. Dr. P said that she didn’t think I should be around pregnant women or babies until all the scabs were gone. She said it was very unlikely I could give it to anyone but it was better to be safe, especially to pregnant women. Needless to say I was not happy but knew it was for the best. Plans for this weekend… CANCELED!!!
Our plans we had to cancel? Well today is little Miss Avery’s 1st birthday!! We were suppose to go to her open house birthday party but sadly had to miss it. I hope you all had a great time!!
