So this weekend Noby and I took a last minute trip to DC. Katie is turning 30 and her wonderful husband was having a cake for her at their annual holiday party. After talking to Doug I thought “What the hell, I want to go!” I found a cheap ticket online and booked it Friday night. Ichiro offered to keep Noby but I felt bad because I breast feed and Noby isn’t crazy about the bottle. So Saturday morning Noby and I were off to the airport. We were dropped off around 8:30 for our 10am flight. Everything was going great, we raced through the ticket line, everyone thought Noby was the cutest. Gate 18, they said, no problem I thought. That was until I got to the security and the “nice” lady says “TAKE THE BABY OUT and EVERYTHING goes through the machine.” So she sat there and watched me put all my bags through the xray, pick up Noby, lift the car seat on the belt, and try to fold up the stroller and lift it. Then she adds, “you need to take your shoes off too.” UGH!
On the other side I put everything back together. We get to the gate and I’m so happy to just sit and relax. I love to people watch and began to watch all the unhappy people at the gate next to us. They were flying to NY and are already late, they had an 8am flight. Then the announcement, there will be a gate change for our flight. They are going to give our plane to the NY bound people and by 10 am their plane should be fixed. Ummm OK? So we all switch gates and wait again, at 10 they announce the NY plane (now going to DC) will not be ready till 12. Great! I text Doug to let him know. About 5 seconds later they said the flight is cancelled and we will all be booked on the 2pm flight. WHAT?? SO annoying, and to top it off my cell phone wouldn’t make outgoing calls. I had to use a pay phone to call Ichiro. Can you believe its cost 50 cents to make a local call on a pay phone, what the hell!
Ichiro came to pick us up and we went out to breakfast. After we stopped home so I could change and feed Noby, then right back to the airport. I was dreading going through security again, but this time a very nice lady offered to help me. It was so annoying that all the security people just watch you, giving you the “hurry up look.” Once through security we were ready to head out. Now on our original flight the ticket lady said the seat next to me was empty and that I could bring the car-seat on for Noby. So I checked with the new ticket lady and she said she had a few empty seats and would move me so there was one next to me and I could still bring the car seat. COOL, right? HAHAHA NO! First they don’t board people with children first, then I realize the lady stuck me in the back of the plane. The WAY back, like 3 rows from the back. I had to lift Noby in his car seat over the seats to the back of the plane, with an entire plane filled with people, what a PITA!!! But Noby did so great, he slept almost the entire way there.
Noby’s first airplane trip, he slept almost the entire way!
Once in landed in DC, we texted Doug and he came to get us. They live about 10 minutes from the airport so it worked out perfectly. We got to the house and we walked right up stairs to surprise Katie. It was great, she was so excited to see us!
The party was so much fun. Katie and Doug have such wonderful friends. They were so welcoming and easy to talk to. Noby was having such a great time he didn’t want to go to bed.

Check out that knife action.
Katie and a couple of her friends, mmmm yummy punch.
After the party, looks like both Katie and Noby need to get to bed.
The trip home was again a challenge. Ticket line went fine and security was actually ok too. Once again some random person offered to help me, not the security workers. My ticket said I was in row 4 so I was not going to ask about an empty seat for Noby, in fear I would be put in the back of the plane again. Well right before we were allowed to board Noby decided he was going to cry and cry loud. I was trying to fix a bottle, hold him and grab all the bags, while pushing the stroller to the gate. He was not a happy camper and either was mom. I carry the screaming child onto the plane and of course I am getting the “OMG please don’t let that baby sit near me look” from everyone. Lucky were the two people in row 4, I kept telling them he will be fine once I got settled in. But I could tell they didn’t believe me. It ended up turning out fine. The lady in the aisle moved to give me more room and I could calm him down by lifting him in the air. My arms were getting such a work out. Finally he took some of the bottle and eventually he passed out. After that everyone around me said he was so cute! hahahha Sorry no pictures of the trip home, lol there was no way I could handle that too.
The trip was great, I loved being able to spend time with Katie. I really wish we lived closer together and could spend more time together. But I also learned that I could never be a single mom that had to travel places. I don’t think I will ever take a trip by myself with Noby again. Well maybe when he’s 21 and can have a beer with me at the bar.
